We welcome Lyndsey Garber of Lyndsey Garber Photography located in New Mexico, as our ShootProof User Featured Photographer. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
How would you describe your style?
I am a ranch life and portrait photographer who loves natural light, vibrant colors and genuine smiles.
How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve been taking pictures since I was 9 years old and bought my first professional camera in high school. I officially opened up shop as a real business and began working with paying clients 3 years ago.
My husband Nelson and I live with our beautiful daughter on a rural New Mexico cattle ranch (110 miles from Walmart). Beyond his day-to-day work as a ranch hand and cowboy, my husband raises cow dogs and trains working ranch horses. I am a photographer, ranch wife, toilet cleaner, laundry avoider, dishwasher loader and Paisley Rae’s mama. I am so blessed to have the life that I do! I love being able to stay at home with my daughter, work along side my husband on the ranch and still be able to pursue my dreams as a photographer.
When did you first fall in love with photography?
I was given an old hand-me-down 35mm camera when I was about 9 years old and I burned through rolls and rolls of film I earned by doing extra chores. It wasn’t until I was about twelve years old that I even thought about becoming a photographer. As a Veterinarian’s daughter, I would ride around with my dad doing vet work on local ranches in the area. I remember the day when we were at one particular ranch and had been invited inside to share lunch with the family. Hanging above their fireplace was a large print called “Harry the Cowdog” by David R. Stoecklein. It was in that moment I fell in love with photography, and I knew I wanted to take ranch life pictures like that. Later in high school I discovered the joy of doing portraits and working with people. In the last few years I have been able to combine my passion for ranch life photography and love of portrait photography in working with ranch families all over the southwest.
What’s your ‘can’t live without’ lens?
Hands down, my Canon 85mm 1.8!
Where do you find inspiration?
I find that my biggest inspiration lies in the light and shadows! It is in those moments of watching light that I get excited to capture new ideas and perspectives!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Practice makes perfect.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
When I look back at how far I have come, I get giddy excited about where photography will take me in the next 5 years. I want to reach higher and go farther! I plan to reach a larger audience with my ranch life photography through more magazine publications, western galleries and museum displays. I want to continue to grow and expand my portrait photography, bettering myself in every aspect of being a photographer and business owner. I would also like to begin helping other aspiring photographers grow their skills through speaking and teaching!
How has ShootProof helped your business?
I discovered ShootProof in the early days of growing my business. As a photographer who averages 300 miles per photo-shoot, I needed a reliable place to upload and share my images online. My clients always fill out a follow-up questionnaire after they have received their prints and products. One thing they all say is they loved how simple and easy it was to navigate their albums and place their orders online.
ShootProof has helped my business by constantly being competitive, offering cutting edge features that make my clients’ sales experience enjoyable and professional. By working to fulfill orders through my favorite lab, ProDPI, they have drastically decreased the time it takes me to order and deliver my client’s prints and products. Their event Pre-Registration option has been a huge success with my business in allowing wedding guests to register to see the Bride & Groom’s wedding albums once they are online. From that simple feature, I have booked more weddings from couples that attended the weddings!
And in a digital world, I have loved the ability to either sell individual images, whole albums or allow my clients to download their digitals free as a thank you for placing significant orders. I also appreciate the new feature allowing me to use a custom PIN number so that only select clients can download images from public albums.
In the past year I have switched over to doing In Person Sales with my clients and ShootProof has been a wonderful way for me to showcase images, keep track of orders and accept payments.
The best part is the fact that ShootProof has been, and remains, affordable and commission free! As a busy artist trying to make ends meet, that alone is a reason to love and stay with ShootProof, even amid the abundance of other proofing and ordering options out there that are popping up at every turn. While I’ve browsed some of the new fads, my conclusion has always been the same: ShootProof is hands down the best combination of EVERYTHING I want and need to amaze my clientele and bring them back again and again for a quality experience.
